State Group Makes Colombia Contact

The following article appeared in the May 26, 1966 edition of The Tampa Tribune and was written by Steve Raymond.

It is an interesting article that shows how different Tampa's Sister Cities were in its early days. First, Sister City's relationship with Barranquilla was enacted by Tampa City Council and not by the Mayor. Second, there was no official Tampa Sister Cities organization. Instead, many civic organizations created Sister Cities committees. According to this article, civic associations in Barranquilla did the same.

Four Florida community leaders took part in the initial trip to Barranquilla. They were Orlando Castillo representing the Tampa Jaycees; Dr. Ross Oglesby representing Florida Rotary; Jim Hunt representing Lakland Jaycees; and William Morales representing the Miami Lions clubs.
