Chamber Unit Greets Sister City Ties

On March 8, 1968, the Governors of the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce were briefed about the development of Sister City ties between Tampa and Barranquilla. During this briefing, a delegation of Colombian business leaders visited Tampa with a keen interest in strengthening technical, cultural, educational, and business connections. The group had meetings with several local business and government leaders, including General Telephone Co., Tampa Electric, the University of Tampa, and the port and aviation authorities.

Fred Martin of the Pan American Commission presented the Sister City relationship and highlighted several collaborative projects. He shared that Colombian civil servants would soon visit Tampa to study operations within their counterpart departments, and a Barranquilla artist was set to become a resident instructor at the University of South Florida.

The Colombian delegation included notable figures such as Miss Colombia, Luz Elena Restrepo, Dr. and Mrs. Alvaro de la Espriella, Rodolfo Zambrano (director of promotion and development at the Barranquilla Chamber of Commerce), and John A. Crump, a vice president of the Chamber.
