TAMPA, FL – In a heartwarming gesture of international camaraderie, Tampa Sister Cities, in partnership with USF World, recently hosted a welcome tour for over 35 students from the Universidad del Norte, Barranquilla – Tampa's oldest active sister city. This event underscores the long-standing collaboration between USF and Universidad del Norte, with many students from the latter enrolling at USF each year, further strengthening the bond between the two institutions.
The day began with a scenic bus ride to the historic Ybor City, where students were treated to a walking tour, immersing them in this iconic neighborhood's tales and architectural wonders. Following the tour, the group enjoyed lunch at the Italian Club, one of Ybor's historic mutual aid societies.
The day's activities culminated with a visit to Armature Works and the picturesque Riverwalk, where students could witness the harmonious blend of Tampa's past and present.
Yasmeen Armoush, a representative from Tampa Sister Cities, expressed her enthusiasm for the initiative, stating, "It's always a pleasure to showcase the beauty and diversity of Tampa to our international friends. Such experiences foster goodwill and create lasting memories and connections between our cities. And in the spirit of fostering these connections, we're thrilled to extend membership to Tampa Sister Cities to all participating students."
Vanessa Martinez of USF World echoed this sentiment, remarking, "At USF, we pride ourselves on our global community. Welcoming our new students from Universidad del Norte with such a comprehensive tour of Tampa is a testament to our commitment to ensuring they feel at home and connected to their new environment."
Both organizations hope this tour will serve as a foundation for a long and fruitful relationship between the students of Universidad del Norte and the city of Tampa.
